Summary of Position 

• Perform routine screening tests including electrocardiograms, phlebotomy, height and weight measurements and blood
pressure checks.
• Escort patients to exam rooms, interviews patients, measure vital signs, including weight, blood pressure, pulse,
temperature, and document all information in patient’s chart.
• Ensure all related reports, labs and information is filled out and available in patients’ medical records prior to their
appointment.
• Record patient medical history, vital statistics, and test results in patient medical files. 

Principal Accountabilities

• Explain treatment procedures to patients; prepare patients for examinations.
• Collect and prepare laboratory specimens; perform basic laboratory tests.
• Instruct patients about medication and special diets.
• Obtain phlebotomy specimens from patients and ensure proper labeling, handling, etc.
• Perform electrocardiogram procedure.
• Take medical histories; explain treatment procedures to patients; prepare patients for examinations.
• Assist the physician during examinations; collect and prepare laboratory specimens; perform basic laboratory tests.
• Instruct patients about medication and special diets.
• Assist physician and physician assistant in exam rooms: disinfect, clean treatment rooms following patient
examinations; maintain safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and
procedures, complying with legal regulations.
• Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintain instruments, prepare sterilization as required,
properly disposing of contaminated supplies.
• Secure patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records;
keeping patient information confidential.
• Utilize the electronic medical records system of record and other computer applications; update and file patient
medical records; code and fill out insurance forms.
• Arrange for hospital admissions and laboratory services; handle correspondence, billing, and bookkeeping.
• Support counseling services for various psychosocial needs such as experiencing the many stressors associated with
their workers’ compensation case(s), the physical limitations and disabilities associated with their physical injuries
and illnesses, and mental health stressors, including assessing for suicidal or homicidal ideation with subsequent
referral to appropriate agencies.
• Perform other duties as requested

Education, Training, Licenses, Certifications

• Bachelor’s Degree.
• Certified in pulmonary function testing; phlebotomy; respirator fit testing.
• If not certified, certifications must be obtained within 6 months of hire date as a condition of continued employment.

Relevant Work Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• 3 – 5+ years of relevant, professional work experience. (R)
• 1 – 2 years of occupational health care experience. (R)
• Additional years of experience/certifications/training may be considered in lieu of Bachelor’s Degree. (R)
• Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.). (R)
• Thorough understanding of medical practices, theories, reasons, technical aspects, administrative processes, and
organizational policies. (R)
• Strong knowledge of patient care and examination procedures. (R)
• Ability to project a confident, positive, courteous, friendly manner, and to communicate clearly and effectively with patients
and other external parties, at all times. (R)
• Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions; and to maintain confidentiality at all times. (R)
• Must be detail oriented, with the ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. (R)
• Ability to read, interpret, and understand new information; and to effectively utilize it to solve problems. (R)
• Ability to maintain records. (R)
• Knowledge in the fields of medicine, anatomy and physiology. (R)
