Summary of Position

Partner with segment leadership to guide and drive business regarding strategic initiatives from concept through implementation and to a mature operation. Plays a key role in planning, monitoring, evaluating and developing the financial and business strategy in collaboration with segment leaders with an emphasis on bottom line performance. Supports the EmblemHealth executive team with analysis of key financial and operational metrics to drive accountability and facilitate effective decision making across the organization. Partner with VP Finance to develop financial analysis, planning, budgeting, and financial reporting capabilities that support both the enterprise and the segment supported.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops strong relationships with key functional areas and partners with business unit leaders in the development of options for strategic business growth.
  • Develop segment level multiyear financial plan and annual budget process. Deliver periodic updates on current performance, projections regarding the financial and operational performance of the segment and risks and opportunities that may be emerging.
  • Work to align performance across pricing, underwriting, product and functional areas to ensure achievement of profitability targets.
  • Support a buyer/ supplier review of administrative expense and capital projects to ensure that services / initiatives deliver align with value points of the market and deliver ROI.
  • Support senior managers in the development of strategies to drive growth and profitability and in ensuring resources are effectively deployed to meet these strategic objectives. Implement oversight processes to ensure business and capital decisions are supported by the appropriate level of financial due diligence, meet return objectives and align with strategic objectives. Acts as financial conscience balancing risk management with finding a path to achieve aggressive business goals.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with regulators (where assigned) to ensure financial issues and concerns are identified and resolved. Final determination on scope of these activities to be defined in final organization construct.
  • Partner in the development of and utilize economic models articulate cost and value ensuring to note points of intersection with existing market offerings, operations or initiatives. Create and maintain mechanisms to measure the success of strategic initiatives defined for segments in both financial and non-financial terms.
  • Proactively seek value-add activities both within assigned areas of responsibility and beyond.
  • Influence direction of the enterprise finance structure, talent needs and recruitment to enable a best in class organization.
  • Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Master’s Degree Preferred
  • CPA Preferred
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in finance leadership positions, preferably in financial planning or actuarial
  • Proven ability to manage direct and indirect staff
  • Strong operational and technical knowledge of the managed care business
  • Demonstrated ability to build, communicate and execute on a vision for strategic change
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
